About GMF
GMF – Gramalaya Microfin Foundation is a non-profit organization registered as a Section 25 company founded in the year 2011 with the objective of eradicating poverty through livelihood promotion activities through increased access to financial services.
Gramalaya Microfin Foundation(GMF) was promoted by Gramalaya NGO mainly for the purpose of economic empowerment of women in the operational areas. Before the formation of GMF, the Founder Chairman of Gramalaya.S.Damodaran, created GUARDIAN MFI for providing water and sanitation loans to the women self-help groups in the rural and urban areas in Tiruchirappalli region.
Guardian is the first MFI in the world which was exclusively established for the purpose of promoting safe drinking water and sanitation facilities for the communities. When Guardian MFI fulfils the need of basic amenities through drinking water and sanitation loans, the clients of Guardian MFI are expecting loans for economic activities after repaying the water and sanitation loans promptly.
GMF was promoted by Gramalaya after meeting a number of stakeholders in the project areas and in the Microfinance sector which would concentrate on the livelihood promotion for the women closely associating with Gramalaya.
GMF approach will be different from other conventional organizations where the loans for income generation will be provided to the women after fulfilling the criteria of training and capacity building at the GREAT Training Centre through its business counseling process. GREAT is an acronym of Gramalaya Entrepreneurs Associates, Tamil Nadu which is providing skills training, technical support and other market linked promotion activities. GMF is governed by experienced people in microfinance and rural development activities with diverse background and professional skills.
